I have the problem that when I close the lid it will not go to sleep at all. In fact, if I put the computer to sleep and close the lid it will spring back to life. So, I don’t think my sensor is completely faulty. But, I do believe it is functioning backwards? I also don’t completely understand your testing method. I would appreciate a more in-depth instruction.

@teakdamar - I moved your question too its own as you have a 2012 model Do you replace your systems SSD? What did you put in? Update (09/22/2020) It does sound like your Hall sensor is messed up then. You’ll need to test it get a small rare earth magnet and a steel paper clip. You’ll also want a bit of masking tape (or Post-It note) to make a small pointer. With the paperclip lets locate the magnet in the screens bezel face along the left side by sliding paperclip along. Once the paperclip is held by the lids magnet carefully fold the lid down and using masking tape marker transfer the location to the uppercase palm rest. Now with the system running, slide the magnet slowly across the palm rest surface where you placed the marker. The display should turn off and when you go past the screen should wake up. Keep in mind the sensing area is about 8mm round. Now to be clear, this is not instant! Did it react? If not, slide the magnet further to the front edge to see if the magnet was located in the wrong placement (the 2012 model has the magnet in a different location than the other models. If you locate it in a different place then your LCD panel was replaced and the person moved the magnet. Hall sensor location:
