Random shutdowns (grep I is “previous shutdown cause -128”) But NOT in safe mode! In safe mode, machine runs for days. did all resets, new user, new OS-X install. Disconnected: SSD, Trackpad, Uppercase, I/O board, Battery. Also tried measuring temperatures on CPUAlso tried SMCFanControl to keep machine cool, to no avail. HELP! And please dont tell me to go to the Apple genius bar, they just say new MLB but I refuse to accept that.
Lets collect a fresh log file of the crash often it will tell you what failed. But, you first need to clear out the old logs so we don’t get lost in all of the old junk. Open ‘Console’ and delete the current log file in safe mode. Then restart in normal mode, once the system crashes save the log file as a Pages file and attach in in your Question (edit mode) I must warn you we may find the logic board has a problem that will either need someone with the skills and tools to fix or Gulp! A new logic board is needed. Can you give us some background here. Did you have a liquid spill into the system or sit it down on a wet surface? Did you drop it or bang it hard?
I’m not 100% but as far as I remember Apple have a quality program on this model and the 2012 for same GPU issues and they doth have tendency’s of randomly restarting or multiple colours on the display. so my recommendation is check with apple you may get a replacement logic-board for free under the GPU quality program. https://www.apple.com/ie/support/macbook…
As I mentioned in “MacBook randomly goes to sleep then shuts down”, what if you connect an external display and prevent the screen from going to sleep (through power settings)? Does it keep crashing? In my case not.
Hey Dan, I have a request concerning what I think is the same issue. I have done everything: Prem reset, removing the battery, repairing the disk, re-installing the OS, etc. I’m hoping you might help with pinpointing the cause of my mac shutting down as soon as I remove the charger. It happened suddenly. Didn’t fall or get wet. Hope you can point me in the right direction. Is this the right log file? https://adobe.ly/34Hd3vL
