Hi, I have a mostly working mid 2012 13" i5 - keyboard and screen are cracked. I also have a early 2011 13” i5 that’s in great condition but with a blown logic board. Is it better to swop the 2012 logic board into the 2011, or to swap out the screen and keyboard into the 2012? I’m not sure if all the 2011 components like ports, WiFi etc will be compatible with the newer Logic board? The main reason for doing it this way is that the case / battery etc of the 2011 are way better than the 2012 although it does seem a little back to front!
Hi Iv had a look at part compatibility and from what I have seen the 2011 and 2012 13inch unibody MacBook Pros use the same Parts so you should be able to swap your logic board over into the better laptop! along side the other parts too hopefully this answers your question if you need any more help just ask Thanks:-)
@southafricanrob - you will face one small hiccup as the 2011 LVDS cable is slightly wider than the 2012 socket on the logic board. You’ll need to take a nail file and carefully grid the edge down following this
Otherwise there are no issues using a 2012 logic board in a 2011 case (keyboard & trackpad) and display.
