Hey! So I followed the guide here on iFixit to replace my battery. Unfortunately now my Surface Pro 4 won’t turn on at all (unplugged or plugged in). Nothing happens, not even the fan goes on. I can’t really figure out what the problem might be. Maybe someone can give me a clue where to look next or what it might be? A few more notes: When I tore off the screen I broke one of the three antennas at the top, but I would guess this wouldn’t cause this problem. When I first tried to turn it on, I forgot to connect the fan back to the mainboard. I fixed that very shortly after. After it didn’t work the first time, I removed the battery again and put it back in, but that didn’t help either. I hope that is enough information!

hi friend After changing battery of Pro 4, you have chance to make component on the board failure, the weak point is Shottky diode on the main board, see link below, it may help but you must have proper tools https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOScqCSu… Update (09/19/2019) See the different between control board from China and board from original battery (LG) Left is chinese battery, right is LG battery, you can use board from original battery to replace the new battery Update (10/02/2019)

see photo of control circuit of Pro4 battery from china and from LG, on the original board has chip control charging and heat sensor. replace the control board with original board can solve problem 100%

Just an update. I managed to find a genuine battery from a broken surface pro 4 and it works fine. The new battery is the issue. Thanks all.

The Surface pro was dead after change the battery, many people found the same thing, not only turn on problem many of them found touch function also failure. The trick is after put new battery in place you must insert plastic sheet to isolate battery until the mainbord sit on the right position then you pull the plastic sheet, the terminals of battery and mainboard will connect to the right place. The failure of battery replacement mostly come from the battery terminals connect to the wrong pins of mainboard during moving mainboard to make it sit on right position.

Hi, did you manage to solve this issue? Having exactly the same problem. Tested the new battery, device actually worked and charged fine. Put everything together a few days later and nothing happens when trying to start it.

I think the battery is from China, some vendor sale battery with incompatible control circuit borad on battery. To make it work you must remove the board from the original battery and replace with the new battery. it is not easy job need skill and soldering gun

Surface pro4 can not turn on with battery but it can turn on with charging cable plug in, 99% came from schottky diode was damaged from sparking during install main borad back on place (see photo ) just replace this diode your Pro4 will be OK

My original battery replacement attempts failed too. Battery wouldn’t charge. Turns out that the first battery may not have been a genuine one, as the seller told me he had the same problem with the battery before he listed it on ebay for sale - as new but not used! suffice to say, surprised and not happy, but he gave me a refund. I then ordered a new battery (claiming to be genuine and compatible) which it looked to be the case when I opened it (same labelling and markings as the original battery within the SP4). I attempted to change it the first time, and it didn’t detect the battery! Then I checked very carefully the seating of the battery onto the SP4 chasses - I made sure I lined up the tiny hole on the battery tab with the anchor on the SP4 chassis (not easy and took me a long time, as the tab needs to be very slightly arched up) and made sure all the contact brushes from the PCB above it were aligned precisely and not bent (I noticed they were bent from the original battery removal, which needed some pulling and pushing of the adhesive under the old battery tab). Anyway, all good after that …

hey i got the same issue with replacement of my surface battery at frist everything was fine however because i had damage of keyborad connector i remove the battery and store it, after a week i got the keyboard connector i re-assembled but surface didn’t work, i really dont know what the issue? if anyone has an idea please let me know

I change the battery on mine (twice !!!) and it doesn’t charge the new battery. However, the old battery is charged when plugged in. If anyone has any info.. Thanks

I am wondering if I have the same issue… I replaced the battery and it works fine when plugged in. Even shows a charge increasing. Unplug it and it goes deader than a door-nail. Do you all think it is a faulty battery or the main board on the battery as previously posted?

Hi! I have same problem. And at least here in Germany it seems to be impossible to get original battery. I already ordered two different ones and both came without the charging and heat control… @boonsong: how can I change the small battery controller board from one battery to another? Do I have to desolder the contacts on the back? And then solder it to the new battery? Or how are they attached? I don’t want to destroy everything… thx in advance Chris

any solution here? I faced the same issue .SP4 completely dead after battery replacement

I have the same issue, the original battery was G3HTA027H and the replacement was DYNR01 Won’t turn on after replacement, with or without adaptor. I am reluctant to buy another battery as the fault could be somewhere else.

i had the Problem That my surface pro 4 is dead after i replace Battery. There is no 3V on Chip IT8528VG- i have Replace the IT8528VG but the battery is not charging and the surface is not starting it es dead i only mesure 8 V which came from my Battery. I also found this interesting Blog https://www.aonemobiles.com.au/2020/03/m… but i still not have the 3V. has any Person an Idea? Update (31.07.2022) You must replace ite Chip. You should also measure the 3.3v. You cann See it on my Video https://youtu.be/6ydT_RxYt-k

Thank you @stefano.gunella for answering . the contacts seems ok but could be the reason the that i use not the original Battery. i have destroyed old Battery but i can try to repair the original battery. in the laptop come the 8 V but i do not measore the 3.3V i only measure 8V from Battery. i also measure 800 Ohm on the 3.3 V line is this normal? Thank you very much for Tipps on my you tube chanel christian Reber i will in future to show ease trick for opening. i had a good Tipp for you i use heating Pad 80 grad an little light oil for glue opening. Also some platic so it is not so difficult open surface

Hallo I could now solve my Problem i had made video about this Problem . I found demage resistor 0.01 ohm you can watch it on my Video chanel https://youtu.be/6ydT_RxYt-k https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWqHW1O… i use oil and heating pad for disassembley and solve glue

Measure the voltage of the battery,if is less than 6.8 p4 won’t turn on if the voltage is around or above 6.8 still no booting that will be circuit related problem. So start with Voltage measuring if is less keep charging it. Measure your charger output voltage

Thank you for your anwering i found solution for Problem please watch my Video on my you tube chanel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ydT_RxY… i also made good Video about openig surface Pro

I’ve also same problem… after replacing the battery from my Surface Pro, it doesn’t turn on… even replacing the original battery again the same… nothing helps. Can someone please tell me what I need to do?

it is also possible to start surface pro 4 without battery. you must also check the power suply on BQ24770RUYT charging chip. is there on pin 28 12-15V. it not check the diode near this pinin on resistor 10 ohm and also watching my video

I am having this issue in December 2022. Replaced battery with SP4 version from iFixit. Replacement measures 7.34V. Control board doesn’t line up as nicely as the original but it technically fits into the pins. Checked for bent MB contacts, but nothing stands out. MB fully seated making good contact with battery pad. No power on when using battery only, or when plugged in. Surface dock lights up solid, as if achieving good communication with battery board. Checked the two shotkey diodes and 000 “fuse” near CPU. Ensured everything plugged back in and seated properly. No visible damage anywhere. Any other ideas? Has anyone had any success with this repair?
