Chosen Solution

I just replaced my iPhone 5 battery. The old battery had swollen and lifted the screen away from the bezel. All went well (t.y. ifixit for that) but the screen to bezel connection is still loose. There are several recommendations here and elsewhere involving double sided tape or very careful use of glue. I may still try one of these option. However this phone is probably going to be replaced this fall with whatever apple brings out. I just want to keep it functional and don’t want to do much that might cause problems - so why not tape it down from the outside? So to the real question: If one was going to try to take the screen down externally what type of tape would you use? Clear packing? Electrical? Duct? Washi? Are there considerations other than residue and the narrow band along the screen that it would need to attach to without obscuring the screen?

Just use electrical tape on the top and bottom and make cutouts for the sensors/buttons/ports. It’s not a permanent solution but will work for your situation. Avoid scotch tape as it will rip easily and leaves residue.

Thank you. Electrical tape is now applied as fix number one and seems to be good for what I want. A bit of lint accumulated on the curved cuts - but I was not as precise as I should have been.
