Hi I have a Samsung tv model ue55mu6220kxxu. The tv is 2 and a 1/2 year old and a couple of days ago it just randomly switched off and now it won’t switch back on. When I put a new 3amp fuse in the plug it blows straight away. Any ideas as to common faults or things it may be? Are modern TVs worth fixing? Any help or ides would be much appreciated thanks.
Hi @grassykibbles82, Presumably where you are there is a fuse in the plug of the power cable that is connected to the TV? Was there already a 3A fuse in the plug? Was it blown? What is the rating stamped on the fuse’s end caps? Just asking because looking at an image of the power board for your TV model and what is usual for a lot of Samsung TVs is that there is a 5A 250V slow blow fuse on the power board where the power connects to. T5A / 250V - (T= Timed) will be stamped on the fuse end caps If a 5A slow blow fuse is required on the power board then a standard aka fast acting 3A fuse (you didn’t specify what type you put in), will not be sufficient in the plug and it will blow straight away. A slow blow fuse of similar rating is required because it will hold during the current inrush period when the power is first connected to the TV, whereas a standard fuse of similar rating will not. We are talking here of only a few milliseconds duration for the high inrush current to subside. Try using a 5A slow blow fuse or whatever the rating was of the original fuse in the plug and check that it holds. Was there a fuse originally supplied with the power cable or did you have to supply and fit it? If it also blows, disconnect the power cord from the TV and use an Ohmmeter to make sure that the cord is OK and not short circuit. Try flexing the cord near the plug ends when testing with the meter, just to verify that it is OK If it holds, does the TV show that the power is connected, i.e. standby power light on? If not, disconnect the power cable from the TV, remove the back cover and check the fuse on the power board, mounted near the input power connector. If the fuse is blown post some images back here of both sides of the power board which may help if there are any problems with the board that you may have missed. Here’s how to do this. Adding images to an existing question If so, does the TV turn on OK? If not when using the remote control, try the TV power button.
