Hello, I have Macally Ice Jr I would like to repair. These are no longer being manufactured and cannot purchase a new one. The mouse appears not to have any power when connected to computer. Jiggling the wire or male side to the computer does nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi @markd123, First thing to do is to open the mouse and then use a DMM’s (digital multimeter) Ohmmeter function to prove the continuity of the mouse’s USB cable wires from the plug to where they’re connected to in the mouse. If the mouse’s USB power supply wires {+ve (Vcc) and -ve (Gnd)} are OK - see image below, then it becomes harder. As there doesn’t seem to be any schematics for the mouse online (I couldn’t find any anyway) you would have to start tracing the power supply path through the mouse. Hopefully there may be an obvious visible problem e.g. loose connection, dry solder joint on the circuit board, fracture in track on board etc. Testing individual components may be harder as usually they’re not marked so even if it were faulty you may not know what their value is so as to be able to replace them.
