Chosen Solution
I have a PS3 slim. Model chech-3001a. Plug it in and the red light comes on. Press power button and the green light and fan come on for a few seconds then shuts down with no lights. If before I press power button I push down hard on left side of disk drive and hit the power button it will run and stay on. If I let off a little pressure it will shut off again. I took it apart down to the motherboard and looked over with a magnifying glass. Checked for solder connections and for damage. Did not see anything wrong. Anyone have any idea? Thanks
Have you checked that the controller board for the disc drive is connected properly? From what i understand, most hardware in the slim is held thru tension from the case screws, kinda sandwiching all the components, if that connector is the culprit and you only need a bit of force on it, you could try to put a soft piece of foam between the drive and the upper case to add that little extra tension you need, but first check that it’s seated properly. There is a teardown on this page for this device, on step 19 third picture you’ll see the connector
