Ok so i was trying to get the motor out of the shell and i ended up spraying wd 40 to loosen it up only to realize the motor doesnt spin anymore and makes a very loud humming sounds and is very hard to spin but it spins freely when it is off (it use to work just fine) EDIT: the red tape is for the wiring not to conduct to cause a short circuit Update (09/24/2017)
sethlikes22 sounds like a motor start capacitor issue or a winding issue. You would need to give us a complete model number and post a few images of your fan with your question so we can see what you see. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that. Update (09/23/2017) Loving it already! That looks awesome and very rustic. Thanks for the images. Just give us more details about what you have going on within the area of the red tape.
Maybe a different angle will show us more. Hope you own a multimeter so that you can do some resistance testing. Looks like you are having some issues with your field pole windings. This would also explain why your motor won’t turn
