Yesterday, we had a power surge and everything in the house got reset. I noticed DirectTV go through the entire boot process on the TV in the bedroom. When I went to turn on the TV in the living room, I was greeted with these massive horizontal, magenta / black lines. All audio works fine through the receiver, but no picture. I tried everything from multiple sources to waiting. All results are the same. Was curious if this would be a simple T-Con board replacement? Since its getting power, it shouldn’t be the main board correct?

Hi @genhawk “Since its getting power, it shouldn’t be the main board correct? “ Not necessarily. The firmware (operating software), is located on the mainboard and if it was corrupted due to the power surge then the TV won’t function properly. Also tcon problems usually show as vertical lines on the screen or no display at all rather than horizontal blocks of colour. Here’s an image taken from the service manual for the TV, that show the two methods that you can try to “reset” the TV to hopefully restore the firmware back to normal if that is the problem.

(click on image to enlarge for better viewing) I have highlighted the two methods that you can try. With the reset method, when you have unplugged the TV power cable from the wall outlet, press and hold the TV’s power button operated for 30 seconds then release the button, to dissipate any residual power from the TV before plugging it back in again and then turning it on to check. If the reset method doesn’t work try the force factory reset method and see if that fixes it. If this doesn’t work try manually updating the firmware via USB. If still no good then you may have to disconnect the power from the TV and remove the back cover and visually inspect the boards for any obvious component damage caused by the power surge e.g. burnt out, blown etc. If you see something and you’re not quite sure or even if you don’t, post some close up images of the boards back here. Here’s how to do this on ifixit. Adding images to an existing question
