My screen has quite strong yellow tints over 3 corners as shown on picture. I know that previous generations of iMac had the same problem. So my question is: is there any way to fix it other that replacing the whole screen ? I’ve recently got it open to add a PCI connected apple ssd. An experienced service company who worked on apple products have executed this operation. I was worried they caused some kind of damage to the screen as they were opening it to add ssd. When I asked them about this yellow tinting, their answer was: “This is a typical issue with laminated apple screens. Sometimes diffuser corners at the back of the screen are mounted too closely to the panel, causing burn like yellow tints on dark colours when the screen is on. It is not a user fault, however Apple does not recognise this as a problem. It can even be seen in a brand new MacBook Pro 2018 laptops” I admit it is not recognisable at all when I work during day with light colours. But it gives itself away with dark colours and high resolution videos/pictures. How can I fix this ?
Lets look at this in a different way… You have a can of peaches (yes I know… what does a can of peaches have to do with my issue…) Think how the can works it holds the peaches in a pressure vessel that prevents the contents from spooling after the canning process which kills off the bacteria. But, if you dent the can you can cause a leak which allows the peaches too spoil, and if the canning process was not done correctly the peaches can also go bad. So what has this to do with my display issue??? Your display assembly is just like our can of peaches! It could be damaged or it could have been improperly assembled from the start. If your problem only showed up after you had the system serviced then its likely the display was not properly taken off so the ‘metal can’ part on the back side got damaged. So the back is pressing on the sheets. It’s also possible heat was applied to the glass which was too hot causing them to wrinkle. The off-color is a clue heat was applied burning the liquid crystal material. See if a full white screen has yellowing around the edges. So what to do??? At this point if this is really bothering you, you only have one direction replace the display assembly with a new unit.
