Hi, a client recently brought their Macbook to me because it wouldn’t turn on or charge. I narrowed it down to the Power/IO board and it was replaced. To be safe I also provided them with a new charger. All was working fine, then 24hrs later it randomly stopped working again. Sometimes it would turn on and charge, then sometimes it wouldn’t. Now it won’t turn on at all or charge. I’ve unplugged the battery to see if it would auto turn on when connected to the mains (as it usually does) and still nothing. I’ve tried SMC reset etc. I’m not sure what else to look for! I’ve disconnected/reconnected everything inside, checked for liquid damage/corrosion etc. I’m thinking maybe it’s the logic board? Anymore suggestions? Thank you
On this particular model, the first thing I might check is actually the trackpad. It’s easy to overlook because it’s under the battery. See if you get power if you unplug the trackpad. If so, pop the battery up and check to see if there’s any corrosion in the trackpad side of the connector, it’s fairly susceptible to even minor liquid contact in this model since the connector is close to the top edge of the trackpad and no protection from liquid entry through the gaps around its edges. Otherwise, it’s probably safe to assume it’s a board issue. Which is still solvable in the right hands.
It looks like a short circuit in the charging circuit (it’s on the motherboard). The Power / IO board looks like you will have to change it again - this one is also faulty.
