Hey there, Really hoping for some answers or suggestions after some failed attempts of fixing my MacBook. I first had charging issues a few years back when my oem charger went on me. I used a non apple charger with no issues for a while and then that one slowly went with periods of no charging ( I would have to jiggle it around the port to start charging). Eventually it stopped working and my computer died. After a bit I bought another charger but my MacBook will.no longer charge. When plugged in the MagSafe will go green, I turn my MacBook on, but startup is extremely slow. My cursor is glitchy and jumpy, and my battery does not charge above 0. I have done an SMC reset with no luck. Possible battery replacement? From personal experience if I were to bring it into Apple would they give me a decent layout of what’s going on or just try and charge me an arm or a leg? I would love to get it running again, upgrade the ram and run high sierra for hevc Thanks for any help it is much appreciated,
I have seen the slowness with no charging with dead ISL6259 charge controller chips. Could vary well be the battery though. I would order a new battery, Take around 5 min to change and you can find a tri tip screwdriver in the electronics repair kit that they sell at Lowes and change the battery. If it still does not work, it is a board level issue and needs to go to someone that can repair a motherboard. There are several in the US that can including myself. Don’t go to Apple, they probably will tell you your machine is obsolete and not help you at all.
