My first Imac will only boot to the folder with question mark. I bought a second and similar imac and changed the hard drives but this first one will still not boot with the new hard drive. However on the second Imac both hard drives will boot What could be the problem with the first Imac?
A folder with a question mark means the computer cannot find a start-up folder. If you are getting this, it’s not booting correctly. If the computer eventually boots, go to the System Preferences and select the start-up drive you want it to boot from. If it fails to boot at all then boot from your system installation DVD and go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities -> Disk Utility and see if it will see the hard drive. If it does try repairing it.
Cable or connector… more serious (logic board) problem if there was an electrical spike to the first one. Remember to return and mark accepted the answer that best solves your problem. Good luck, N
