I took my motor and transmission out of my truck and put into my other truck. Both are same year models. Everything is working fine except when I put my truck into drive it will not shift into first gear on its own. I can drop it into first gear and it will go then i put it back in drive. Its all shifts fine until I stop and have to take off again. What do you think this could be. Thanks Hunter
@muddog ,Hunter, Always check the fluid level as a first step and top up if needed. If the transmission will not downshift, one of the shift solenoids may have become stuck open / closed, preventing fluid from entering the transmission valve body to pressurize the correct gear, faulty PCM, check for faulty wiring loose/pinched/damaged, sensors such as VSS/TPS faulty,etc.etc.. May be should have scanned for error codes as this could lead directly to the fault. Some of the auto parts suppliers offer free code reading like Pepboys, Nappa, Advanced auto parts, etc and some of the guys are very knowledgeable and may have seen the issue often and put you on the right track. May have to visit a good local tranny shop and have them take a look, diagnose and estimate repair. A couple informative links below. Good luck. Hi Hunter, the transmission you should have in your truck is called a 4L60E which is an electronically controlled automatic transmission. You may have some type of faulty wiring depending upon what happened to the transmission in the truck you swapped the transmission into. By dropping it down to first gear manually, you are somewhat overiding the computer. I would advise taking it to a local shop for diagnosis.
