Hi, I’m planning on purchasing the 2020 Mac mini in the next couple of weeks. It makes much more sense to upgrade the RAM by myself, but I want to make sure that using the 2018 RAM upgrade guide will yield the same results for the 2020 machine. Any guidance would be super helpful. Thanks.
Sadly, Apple doesn’t offer details for the RAM in the 2018 or newer 2020 Mac mini’s in their RAM guide Upgrade or install memory in your Mac mini Which is technically WRONG! As we can see here Mac mini Late 2018 Memory (RAM) Replacement When iFixit and others opened up their systems they were able to read off the chips specs and then tell us what Apple was using. Looking at the tech specs page we can see the 2020 is not even listed! Mac desktop specs all we see currently is Mac mini (2018) - Technical Specifications So we know what the 2018 model had 2666 MHz PC4-21300 DDR4 SO-DIMMs (260-pin). And looking at the Apple Mac mini sales page we can see the RAM is 2666 MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM Mac Mini 2020 So its safe to say the RAM is the same!
