My stepmother gave me her iPhone 5 for my birthday, I user it for about a year now and it was acting kind of slow so I decided to update it, after it updated and it has an activation lock on and she doesn’t remember her apple id or email password to change her information to get back in the device
So, you’re telling me for a year, you’ve not had to download any apps or anything? So you wouldn’t know the password to download anything etc.? Unfortunately, removing the iCloud isn’t possible unless you know the details, or try to reset the password through iCloud, but only if you know the email.
Go to apple. Probably with your mom/stepmom. They can email her a new password to her email
