Chosen Solution
Hi there! I am new to all iPhone repair and had a quick question. I ordered an iPhone 7 for repair on ebay just to practice. I purchased a replacement screen (non-oem, described as AAA quality) and it all went smoothly until I booted it up and was met with a “Touch ID can not be enabled on this iPhone” message. I AM using the original home button as I am aware that it is paired with the iPhone straight from the factory. I presume this is just an issue with a poor quality LCD or some sort of security feature that ensures only genuine apple screens are used. TLDR: Will replacing my third-party screen with a genuine apple OEM refurbished screen solve the error “Touch ID can not be enabled on this iPhone” ?
There’s no security feature of sorts preventing touch ID from working with third party screens, not even the cheapest knockoffs in the market. If you can find on a big marketplace a seller grading their screens as B or C I’ll reconsider my skepticism for AAA grading being any meaningful. You have two possible issues, a bad screen or an involuntary tear on one of the two flat cables, the long one from screen where it makes a 90° bend or the short one part of the very home button. By experience tears on flex cables are more common than faulty screens on the iPhone 7, but hard to see without some magnification and a good light source.
