I have an 2008 iMac with 5gb ram and running OS X 10.11. And I was thinking about trying a Intel core 2 quad. Does anyone know if this processor will work with this iMac?
According to this page that logic board should be socketed, so it should be physically possible. As to whether or not it will work, there doesn’t appear to be any information for that specific model, but it will depend upon whether the power supply can support it and whether the firmware has any restrictions within it. I doubt the latter is true, but the power supply could be an issue.
