I’ve been asked to look at an iPhone 8 Plus that won’t charge or turn on. Checking the battery I assume is the first course of action. But, the only spare battery I have kicking around is out of an iPhone 7. Are the connectors the same? Would I be able to plug the 7 battery into the 8+ just to test it?

The battery connector is different so unfortunately they can’t be plugged into a different model. First course of action for me is to check if the charging cable is plugging in snugly. If not with a gap I then clean the charging socket of any foreign material or gunk and see if it charges. A USB ammeter (which can be bought relatively cheap on eBay) will help to diagnose if charging socket is working at all.
