for the last weeks I have had a very weak wifi signal on my early 11 MBookPro usually only at the first level in the signal strength bar it will show full strength if shut off and turned back on for a few seconds, then down to the first bar. I have version i7 does this have a replaceable wifi card? all other computers are not having this issue in our household.
Hey Skiebuster, in my opinion the cable or Airport/Bluetooth card itself would be the first place to start. I’d suggest opening up the rear case to expose the proper components, inspect all connections. Re-seat all ribbons and boot to test. If no improvement then I’d be willing to bet the Airport card itself has degraded over time and cannot receive the signal properly anymore.. Be aware of any sudden impacts/drops also, this would definitely cause hardware issues.
I got this identical machine in yesterday with intermittent wi-fi problems. I ran Symantec Endpoint Protection Anti-virus on it and found 15 infections. As of right now, I am currently no longer having wi-fi problems but if I run into something else on it today I will let you know. I also have a new wi-fi part that I will check out if I experience problems.
