Hi Anabella, The iPad has a digitizer (glass screen) that can detect when and where you touch the iPad screen. If it works only on parts of the screen, it is usually due to that digitizer being cracked, or the cable connecting to the board being damaged, or sometimes the board of the iPad itself being damaged. Usually the above can happen following a harsh drop, water damage, a failed repair, or some other incident. So what happened with your iPad? History is important. Anyhow, the way to fix it is to first install a new digitizer and test the iPad. If it works, it means the issue was either the touch screen itself or the attached cable as they come fused together. Here’s the repair guide that shows how to perform this repair, together with links for the needed parts and tools. Beware that this repair is the most difficult iPad screen repair so far. If replacing the digitizer screen does not fix the issue, this usually means the connectors on the board are damaged. The connectors are where the cable of digitizer attaches to the board of the iPad. It could also be some other issue, but either way, you’ll need at this point someone with some experience to diagnose the cause. You can send it for repair, but don’t choose the cheapest offer and/or try to find a reputed fixer/shop. This repair requires that the replacement parts be of the best possible quality (such as the screens sold on iFixit.com. Links available in the repair guide above) otherwise you’ll encounter many issues down the line, such as dead spots like you have now, or ghost touching (iPad seems to be working alone), or power button not functioning. Good luck.
