I opened up my iPhone 5s so that I could change the battery but after doing so I put it back together but the Touch ID wouldn’t work even though it’s the original home button. I tried to disconnect it and reconnect and it still did change anything so I restarted but that did nothing.

This could be the result of a few thing but my first inkling is that some damage may have been done to the home button cable itself or the lightning port assembly during the repair. The home button cable is in a 0terrible place on this phone. It’s easy to tear inadvertently when you opened the phone. I would give it a thorough inspection. You don’t mention whether or not home button works, is the button itself responding normally?
