Chosen Solution
Suddenly my ipad air 2 stopped recognizing any lightning plug. It has gone to zero power & shut off. It was one year and one week past the purchase. Of course, Apple wants to just replace my unit using my Applecare +. Though, there are a few videos that are priceless that I recently took that were not backed up. What are my options? Ideally I would like to keep my unit & repair it. If I turn my unit back into Apple & receive a replacement, I’m very concerned that my sensitive personal data is not secure. What are the guarantees that Apple will wipe the unit? Any help is appreciated.
- Apple wont wipe the unit. (at least not instore)
- Apple will not transfer your data.
- If you are going to repair the ipad air 2 yourself, be very careful as the screen is bonded to the lcd, making the chance of cracking it quite high. Possible problems
- Lint in the charge port. (clean out the port)
- Damaged charge port (change the port)
- Internal board damage(repair problems on the board) If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, take it to you closest independent repair shop that does microsoldering as only those stores will solve the third problem for you
Here is an article from another technology website that’s worked for me in the past. It describes cleaning the port carefully. https://www.engadget.com/2014/07/21/quic…
