I’ve had my Sylvania TV for many years (8+) and it works great! But the power button on the remote control doesn’t work well. It WILL turn the TV on, but you have to hold it down for at least 3-5s. But every other button works great! Volume is not a problem and it changes channels like a dream! I’ve tried new batteries and it doesn’t look like the button is gunked up so what gives?
Hi @asystolej9 , As the Power button is one of the most “popular” (most used) buttons on a remote control it may be that the contact surface on the underside of the button has been worn away or the circuit board tracks which the button contact “bridges” when the button is pressed are dirty. Try using a digital camera or the camera in a mobile phone to test the Power button. Turn on the camera and then hold and point the remote at the camera. When viewing the remote in the camera’s LCD screen, press a button and check if you see a flashing light at the end of the remote (any button will do to prove that you are doing it correctly). Press the Power button and check if you still see the light or whether you have to really press and hold it to get the signal light. Here’s a link to a video that shows how to clean a remote. It is not for your particular remote but the principle is the same. If it still doesn’t work after cleaning, the contact material may have been worn off the contact surface of the button. Unfortunately this cannot be easily replaced. I have had about a 60% success rate when thinly smearing the contact surface of a button with conductive glue. The failures when using this method were that the glue doesn’t stick for long and falls off. The other alternative is to look on places such as Ebay for a replacement remote. Just search for your make and model TV remote control or use the model number printed on the remote itself (if there is one) in the search term to get results.
