Chosen Solution

My Playstation 4 started over heating I tore it apart and found the thermal paste was dry I did a complete clean out of the console and replaced the thermal paste. The console stopped overheating but it won’t take disk now. I don’t know if it’s a wire that’s bad or if it’s the optical drive it’s self and I’m not sure how to find out. Any ideas? Update (02/12/2016) Do you guys sell the ribbon cable?

It’s likely a bad ribbon cable. There is a large ribbon cable that goes from the disc drive to the motherboard. It has little “ears” on it that will tear off if not removed correctly. Then those little ears will sometimes get stuck inside the connectors causing the ribbon cable to not slide in all the way or slide in sideways. This is by far the most likely cause of your problem. I hope this helps. Update (02/13/2016) I don’t see any listings on ifixit for this ribbon cable. Looks like Eaby is your best bet.
