I have a early 2008 15" Macbook Pro. It’s got the 2.5 Ghz C2D. I received this unit for free because it won’t power on. I ordered a new “T” Magsafe adapter right away and tried it. I get no light on the Magsafe adapter. I tested the Magsafe on my other Macbook Pro and it works fine. I also tried the “L” new style Magsafe Adapter on the broken MBP. No light. So I took it apart and removed the Left i/o Magsafe board. I purchased a good known working replacement. I just installed that today and I still get nothing. No light on either Magsafe Charger. So it appears that the SMC isn’t activating the Magsafe board. Unfortunately the battery was completely depleted when I received the unit, so I can’t test that. I’m trying to restore this to good working health. Does it look like I need to buy a new Logic Board or are there other things that I can try? I did reset the SMC and that didn’t do anything. I’d appreciate your input!
A lot of these machine won’t power on if the battery is completely drained. If you have a similar machine around try switching batteries. Let us know your results. This machine also has the GeForce 8600M GT video processor which Apple had problems with but we need it to try to boot before going into that.
