Chosen Solution

Hey guys, I recently bought a copy of God of War 3 off eBay and popped it in to play today and my system seems to be having issues with reading the disc. All that happens after I select the game and start it, is that it goes to a black screen and never fully loads up to the main God of War menu. I don’t have any issues with physical copies of other games I have. I have the latest update for GOW3 installed and am greatly annoyed now. My console is the PS3 slim 160gb CECH-3001A model. Any ideas as to what the problem(s) might be? I’ve read it could deal with the Blu-ray laser needing to be cleaned OR because the slim models of the PS3 have difficulty in reading dual-layer discs. Amy help is greatly appreciated. When I select GOW3 and start it, after waiting some time on the black screen, an option to install the latest update appears, which I choose to accept but then the screen goes back to black, my console will make some noises like it’s reading the disc, then it will cut out and the console will restart entirely. I am able to press “triangle” on my controller from the main PS3 dashboard and install the GOW3 update manually successfully before starting the game but then the screen still stays black. Either way, the screen will stay black. I have also read elsewhere that the OEM PS3 hard drive for the slim model could be the issue and installing a new hard drive could be the problem solver. I was planning on installing a new hard drive anyways, since I would like more internal storage but I want to hammer out the problem to this issue before I proceed with taking apart my console.

@timethief80 since “I don’t have any issues with physical copies of other games I have” seems to be an issue with that particular copy. Sure, it could be the laser but highly unlikely since it reads all of your other disks. See if you can get another copy of the game before you repair hardware that may not be necessary and costly.
