The phone can’t detect 5Ghz wifi in every day use. When I enable airplane airplane mode and turn my phone off and on again, it detects 5Ghz wifi and connects to it. But when i go out of range and come back or turn wifi off and on again, it cant see or connect 5Ghz wifi untill i repeat the whole process again. 2.4 Ghz seems to work fine. The phone is currently running android pie. The issue was also on Oreo. Is this a hardware issue? And how can i solve this. :( I have done factory resetting and also tried changing wifi channels and resetting router. The 5Ghz wifi works fine with other devices.

Someone on the internet with the same phone said to make sure your APN and SIM card are working properly. You could also try taking out the SIM card, maybe its conflicting with your public wifi options. Try and do something with both things I said and get back to me.

Guys turn on airplane mode then open wifi it really worked for me.

I had the same issue. I went to my router settings (Netgear router), and changed the channel from auto to 36 for the 5g network. After this it became visible on all devices. Try different channel numbers and see if it works.

It does not support 5g. Very sad. Bad for redmi. I will not promote to my friend. Fail spec for redmi 8.

Reset your routerConfigure using Singapore RegionSet 5GHz Channel from Auto to 36That is how I got it working in my Samsung Galaxy S10+ , using Xiaomi Mi 4A Dual Band (Non-Gigabit Edition) Global Firmware Router.

I have the same issue with samsung galaxy s21 ultra . 5ghz works once airplane mode is turned on, then restart phone and turn on wifi before disabling airplane mode . Guys what i have observed that band one which is channel 36to48 is where u have issues . My phone in normal, can see 5ghz wifi which are on band 149 and higher . With this restart sequence i am able to connect to the 36_48 channels. That also till i m in range . Once out and back everything has to be repeated . Its strange as to understand what is conflicting. Wifi and sims are totally different things and should not be interconnneted in anyway. All those who have mentioned the problem above should try channels 149 and above . Its something to do with region wise softwares by phone companies . Enabling and disabling channels as per country law. I am using a mesh wifi6 system (deco x20). And dont have option to select channels.

I solved this problem how to fix redmi wifi problem I think this is applicable for any redmi device
