Hello everyone, I got MacBook Pro 9,1 and I want to upgrade it from HDD to SSD. I tried Samsung EVO 850 - No luck, only working through USB Now I got OCZ TR150 - Same problem But HDD is working fine! I heard about problems wit SMC and BootROM versions, mine is the last versions Boot ROM:MBP91.00D3.B0D / SMC: 2.1f175 Some people in the web tells that changing the sata cable will do the magic, but what the difference between stock sata cable and the other one? (From iFixit) Sorry 4 my English lol, I’m Russian Update (10/25/2016) Non-workin cable inside
Well to start off your English is better than my Russian ;-} Yes, you need a new HD SATA cable. While your HD is able to use the current cable your new SSD just can’t. It all comes down to speed! The Apple drive you currently have is a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive, your new Samsung SSD drive is SATA III (6.0 Gb/s). The SATA cable your system came with is only rated for SATA II which is why you need to replace it. Unlike desktop systems laptop cables are finicky! You need to use the newest version of the cable: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable - Apple P/N 923-0084 Удачи!
