i bought a broken imac from 2007 and when i turned it on it make 9 beeps when i opened it i realized that only three leds were lit except the led on the LCD how can i fix this problem?
1 beep = no RAM installed 2 beeps = incompatible RAM types 3 beeps = no good banks 4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block) 5 beeps = processor is not usable. You are most likely hearing a series of 3 beeps a pause then 3 beeps, a pause, then 3 more beeps Check the RAM modules to make sure that they didn’t become dislodged. There is a possibility that the DIM slots are very dusty too. Try blowing out all dust from the computer.
9 beeps in an SOS pattern (. . . _ _ _ . . .), a pause, then it repeating again usually means the EFI ROM is corrupted and the computer is in EFI ROM recovery mode. Give it a good hour to try and let the computer save itself. If you think you’ve waited long enough and it still hasn’t done anything, since you have a pre-2011 Mac, you should be able to replace the chip containing the EFI and the EFI ROM. I have no idea where to get one, unfortunately.
