Sunday I noticed a popping sound coming from the TV. About an hour or so later the screen went out but the sound was still active. Later that night I hit the menu button on the TV and the menu popped up then the screen went black again. The next morning I turned the TV on and it was working until today. Same issue. I noticed after taking the back of the TV off that the blue light on the board comes on then slowly dims off. Not sure if that’s something to be concerned about. Can someone please help. I’m trying to see if it’s worth being repaired or getting a new one. I purchased it back in 2012.

I can think of two possibilities. the first is that a bug crawled into the TV and got across some high voltage in the power supply. The second is something is shorting. If you feel ok abut looking around the inside you might look for a bug (insect) but if you find one, only use non metallic item to clean it out. Leave the TV unplugged for 30 minutes before opening. I don’t know what the blue light is, so no help there. Otherwise, if the TV quits, I would get a new one since 42" size are not very expensive and probably have more features.

@goldengyrl you did not tell us what your power LED shows. If the power LED is green and the backlight is on but you have no video or onscreen menu start off by checking to see if you have 12 V on pin 6 and 7.

. If you do not, then replace the power board. If you do have 12V there, process to check with this:

If you need help with any of this, post some good images of your boards with your question. For that use this guide. you also want to explain to us exactly what happens with your TV. Let us know what the Power LED shows, if you have an onscreen menu etc. The more detail you can give us, the better. Not sure where you could get your TV fixed, but I am certain it will be more to get it fixed than if you just replaced all the boards inside your TV:-) Give it a try.

The blue light slowly dimming will be the capacitors and is nothing to worry. I’ve had this problem before and was rectified with software upgrade found on the menu screen
