So, recently I started to replace the glass on an iPad. the way the glass was brown the digitizer didn’t work and the volume/mute/lock ribbon cable was severed. I got the glass but I haunt gotten the ribbon cable. The display was working fine and I disconnected it to remove the ribbon cable. Upon plugging it back it there is no backlight on the display. There is no water damage and no damage on the logic board, the display just stopped working. Do you think that when I get the ribbon cable and can reconnect the lock button, a reset will fix it? I did accidentally turn it on once while the display was off. I have never had this problem before and it is puzzling. EDIT …and i forgot to mention that the unit wasn’t fully off when the cable was removed because the lock/power button didn’t work.
Yes you need a working power and home button. After that just do a hard reset by holding down power and home button for 20 sec.
you might have fried the backlight chip or the filter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4zF3kQrz… I made a youtube video on the ipad 2 backlight solution if your ipad 2 was short because you forgot to turn off the ipad when changing the screen. you want to change and replace the backlight chip and the backlight filter and then if you ipad had water damage change the backlight 4R7 coil as well. for more detailed picture showing where the ipad 1, 2, 3 backlight circuits is located please visit http://www.cyberdocllc.com/ipad-2/ I have fixed more than 20 ipad 2 logicboards with backlight issues so far. I havent have one fail with this solution just by changing these three surface mount components.
Hello people maybe isn’t iT very professional but I fixed the problem by heating up the main board and I booted the system. ( just the part where the backlight chip is.) 3 or 4 seconds with a paint burner ( a hotter fohn)
I pad went off for no apparent reason. Read your advice on the above on holding power and home buttons down and hey presto it worked. Still do not know why the backlight went off as the wife just closed the pad down with the cover but many thanks so far.
