Uh, so apparently the fix was much simpler than opening it up and dealing with hardware. I just used a paperclip and pushed the little pinhole button underneath the laptop to reset the battery, then plugged it into the charger. It started up with no issue, no more loud noise.

@michael5029 there may not be any visible damage but if you look carefully at your fanblade you see that there is a variation in fan speed. This may be caused by the fan itself as well as the tachometer on the motherboard. I’d replace the fan and re-evaluate before trying anything else.
