I have a bizarre problem on an iPhone 5c. It works totally fine, except for one thing. The clock does not run while the phone is asleep. No matter what I do, it always goes back to whatever time it was last set at when it goes to sleep. The clock advances normally if it is awake, but as soon as I put it back to sleep, it jumps back to the same time. If I set the time manually, it will update, but that just becomes the new time that it jumps back to. Our maintenance guys use their phones for clocking in and out and such, so this obviously breaks the functionality of that crucial app, among other things. I have tried a complete DFU restore - same problem. I even opened it up and disconnected the battery for a few minutes. It’s exhibited the problem with two different SIM cards in it with LTE on and off. I’ll admit - I’m pretty stumped on this one. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

5c has a known problem where the crystal oscillator just stops working. Few people have success repairing these defects, although the crystal is replaceable with microsoldering. I would recommend buying a new phone and moving on.

jessa is right, if it is that the crystal oscillator stops working is because of overheating, and it’s caused by the heavy duty fast processor and don’t forget the new LTE chip, neither of them come with a miniatur fan. The little guy works as hard as a laptop. I remember few years back, one of the laptops with an AMD graphic chip used to blackout all of a sudden, without warning, and the cause was overheating of the AMD chip, because it did not have a cooling fan or bigger copper heat pipes, as a result the chip detaches itself from the m/board, boom nothing! poor consumers thought their LCD just went out. Justin, I have a nice blue 5c like yours with exactly the same problems, everything works in my phone, except date and time. recently, I visited an apple tech., I told him the problem, without hesitation, he told me the logic board has to be replaced with $$$, my advise to you bud, replace the logic board, if it’s fixed, get rid of it, i.e. sell, sell, sell it, that is what I will do, hope this will solve it. ’till then so long.
