I dont remember doing anything to my iphone to cause the backlight to go out. I havent got it wet, or dropped it. I have and iPhone 3gs 16 GB white case. i was playing a game on it, in my house, and then 5 minutes later, i went to check my email, and the backlight didnt work. I can still see the screen if i shine a light across it. and everythig alse still works. I have tried setting the brightness haighter and lower, but that doesnt do anything. what do I need to do to fix the backlight? If i need to buy materials what do i need? Ive never taken apart an electronic device before but im ready to give it a try if I can fix my phone. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, the coil to which oldturkey3 refers to is marked 6R8 and has blown and needs to be replaced. There is a way round it by soldering a cable from the position in my photo to the screen connector on the logic board therefore cutting out the coil. I used +- .5mm insulated cable recycled from a cable from a old laptop screen. Im sure you can find a technician that can do the job, if they cant do this simple bit of soldering then heaven help us. Why dont you have a go yourself, beginners luck is a strange thing, you will most likley get it right the very first time and then screw up every other soldering job you attempt for a month but luckily you only need to get it right once unless of course you are going to join the iFix community then sadly once you are hooked its a life of racking your brains for solutions that could be solved by just going out and buying a new one but that community is called iPrix. Good luck
