Hello I have a Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator model number 106.5002 and it uses a model number 9081 water filter. All of a sudden my water started not tasting very clean and I noticed the door to the filter inside the grill on the bottom left of the refrigerator was open, so I closed it again. The water still continued to taste like tapwater. I then tried changing the current water filter, which was only about one month old, and I did not hear the usual water pressure sound go into the new water filter. I then removed the brand new water filter and it was still empty. There is no water going into the water filter and from what I have learned I believe my refrigerator has an automatic inbuilt bypass plug. Could this have somehow activated? I also looked inside the housing and there does not appear to be anything broken. Also, my water dispenser and my icemaker continue to work without the filter. I would like to use the water filter and I am not sure what to do, or how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @pjmp Perhaps the filters weren’t being fully inserted. The internal bypass mechanism in the filter housing wasn’t being activated by the insertion of the filter, allowing the water to flow into and through the filter, but stayed in the bypass position i.e. filter removed position If reinserting the filter again doesn’t work, you may have to replace the water filter housing.
