My dryer is about 3-4 years old and it has been working fine. But in the past 2 months I had to change my thermal fuse. When the fuse goes bad the dryer is really hot; however, I am using it for a week for about two loads a day and it is fine- then suddenly the fuse blows. The same thing has happened three times in a row. I had people check all other fuses, breaker, outlet, connectivity and all is good. Vent has been blown so it is clear, no residue inside. Please help what can cause this.

Hi Michael, Here is a good link on how to diagnose and fix the issues. I hope it helps :) https://www.shopyourway.com/questions/10

The fuse is not the main problem. The problem is what is drawing so much power it causes the fuse to blow. The fuse is there to protect the machine from drawing to much power and burning up. Check your wiring. See if you have a short in the heating coils. Without doing this, if you replace the fuse again, it’s just going to blow again.

The thermal fuse does not blow (in every model I’ve worked on) due to drawing too much power. The thermal fuse blows when the dryer overheats (that’s why it’s called a “thermal” fuse). You state that the exhaust from the wall to the outside has been blown (couldn’t hurt to try a flexible brush, remember to always rotate the brush clockwise and never counterclockwise) so now we need to make sure the flexible pipe connecting the dryer to the wall vent is also clear, as well as the lint trap. If this is all clear then chances are that the thermostat regulating the temp of the dryer is malfunctioning and needs replaced. Dryers should not run more than 180 degrees (on high temp setting). If the thermostat is not functioning there is no way for the dryer to know when to turn off the heating element or when to restart the heating element. This means that the dryer will continue to get hotter and hotter until the thermal fuse blows which will stop the heating element from heating (and in some cases the dryer won’t even turn on). This greatly reduces the risk of fire associated with an overheated dryer.
