I cracked my screen and ordered a replacement. Upon receiving my the new LCD and digitizer I carefully installed them and reassembled the iPod. Now, when I try to turn it on the screen is white. I tried to do a reset by holding the home button and screen lock button for 30 to 40 seconds, but that did not help. Any ideas of what I may have done wrong? Could it be a faulty part? Thanks so much. -Travis
Travis Mo, it is always possible that it is a defective product, but first what I would do is to disassemble again and triple check the connections and to make sure that everything is seated properly and that all cable and connections are clean and straight.
this is a common problem, look for a program called recboot stick the ipod into recovery mode and wait a min, then connect to itunes, then quit itunes again, run recboot again and kick it out of recovery mode this should sort it out, if not then it is possibly a fault caused by static which can sometimes resolve by running the battery completely flat and leaving alone for a day or so then put a little charge in it again!
Although i have a 3GS, i had a similar problem after replacing the glass. However i had fixed my screen by pushing down on the connector, it apparently wasn’t in all the way so it just showed the white screen. Try it out and tell me how that goes.
it is the connection I hold mine down and it works and I le it go I feel it move and it goes white. the LCd connector is a pain in the rear end to stay down while putting the screen in place Update it is the connector when I hold it down it works but when I let go it moves and the screen fades to white. so the connection is incomplete. Th connector is a pain to keep down in the replacement.
I’ve ordered from wholesaler’s that get their products from China. A few months back I got a batch of replacement screens and none would work. The replacements, which I received, had 4 rows of connectors on the thin cable vs 2 rows that is standard on the stock screen that came on the iPod. If you look at the one in the top photo, the one with 4 columns of pins, I could never get those to work. However, the bottom photo, is a replacement that matches the connector that comes built in from the factory. They have all worked fine.
I have just managed to replace digitizer/lcd. First the result was white screen. Then I changed back to the old screen but now that was white too. Then I tried to reset ipod like described holding home, vol. Up and then power button. Hold all three buttons until the screen turns on and show the apple. After several tries it worked and I replaced the old screen with the new again and it worked. Good luck.
In most cases its a loose connection or you need to reset the device. On the other hand I’ve actually seen screens go white that are defective. To double check, I hang on to a couple of old cracked screens just to connect up to rule out a bad replacement part. Be careful though, pulling up that logic board over and over to re-connect the (thin cable) to the bottom of the board can be trouble - logic boards have a tendency to snag the power/volume flex cable and tear it, which means soldering and a lot of hassle. I smooth down the power cable with a pry tool and stick on a piece of Kapton tape (after a few “costly” mishaps) before pulling up the logic board. Last, don’t use your finger to snap down the cable onto the board – use a pry tool - gently, because too much force can break off the connector on the logic board and your into big mess.
Hi, mi name is michael monreal, im a apple techinician, okay to solve this problem, conect everything on the ipod, make sure everyting is on the right place. after this, if you have the WHITE SCREEN. press down Power+home botton. this will cause the motherboard to refresh, because the static caused to {crash} i hope this solve your problem any questions Michael0master@hotmail.com
While holding the home button down and volume up button, push and hold the power off button and hold that until you see the apple sign. Update While holding the home button down and volume up button, push and hold the power off button and hold that until you see the apple sign. try it will really work !!!!!!!!!!!
sometimes for a white screen i find disconnecting the battery and connecting it again is a fix, not for the faint hearted or inexperienced
I had the same problem. I replaced the screen and after I put everything back together I got a white screen. Hard reset did not help. The connectors on my replacement screen didn’t have the black rubber protectors on them that all the other connectors in the phone have. So I just put a few layers (2-4 layers should do the trick) of electric tape on the screen connectors so the shield that goes on top of them would push them down. I turned on the phone and was greeted by a lovely apple logo right away. Hope this helps.
Hard reset it.Home and lock button for 10 seconds, simple.Just froze up.
This is really good stuff I have seen the issue with the different connectors and that its self is a big problem, send it back I found this seller on ebay and never had one problem with the white screen, black screen again, I own my own repair shop and been doing this for quit some time now and had this problem many times, run the battery out recharge, always on the connector that is on the underside use a bit of the 2mm double side tape after it is seated, when you replace the board back in it comes loose, that is why when you first open it up it has the copper heat sink tape on it not only for the heat but to keep it sucurely in place, I also use the amber heat shield tape to hold the top cable down securely because when u move it just a bit putting it back in it can wiggle loose, thus the white screen. The ebay seller I use is Hudson_River_Goods (10360) $24.45 in the 3 years of dealing with them never a problem with the white screen, make sure its off before you start, be care with everything, and dont heat to much before or after, heat will also cause these cables to be unstable at the screen side do to they are not soldered to they are heat pasted soldered thus heat will loosen them. The guy above with the pic showing the difference in the connector is right, one is for the begining ipod in the that gen and the other is for the later in that gen, if you go cheap you get white screen use the seller I told you about and you will be just fine, good Luck. Thank you and Good Luck
I purchased a new screen from eBay to replace a cracked screen on a iPod Touch 4th Gen. After replacing the screen I got a white blank screen. I did a hard reset and the screen showed the home screen. So I continued on to secure the screen to the iPod but the ribbon cable became pinched between the metal. The screen became white again and I haven’t been able to correct this. The iPod then wouldn’t even turn on or show any sign of life. I had to short the battery terminal and this allowed it to turn on again. I tried removing the screen and reinstalling it again from scratch to no avail. I tried a hard reset again, nothing. I tried connecting the iPod to iTunes to get it into DFU mode numerous times and it just wouldn’t work. Finally after, trying and trying I was able to get it into DFU mode and iTunes recognized it and restored it to factory settings. Once the iPod was fully restored I was hoping this May fix the white screen but I was wrong. I am able to see the home screen through iTunes and the iPod is responding to syncing, but just got the darn white screen still. Am I looking at needing to get a new screen again? Update Update: received the replacement screen in the mail and went ahead and installed it. Everything is good to go now. The first screen I received was defective.
First recheck the connection.I had it happen too.It is most likely because the lcd connector in either on bad or is ripped. When you move it it causes it to have distortion.I tried before but the screen I got sucked.I broke the speaker wires and the whole thing was destroyed.I think some screens are bad.Read reviews on them first, then buy. I really had the problem a few months ago.I moved the lcd cable ( the thick one on the top next to FaceTime camera) try moving that if the soft reset does not work. The soft reset is holding the home button and power button down together for 10 seconds roughly.Let me know and I will gladly help you out.Good luck. Note ( be careful. If it is an ipod you like you should send it somewhere cheap to be fixed otherwise it could be destroyed.) luck
