My power adapter is overheating and when I turn on the laptop it keeps going on and off,the display screen is not showing

Turn laptop off. Unplug adapter. Remove battery. HP Elitebook 820 G2 Battery Replacement or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yVOBKj4… Plug in adapter and turn on laptop. Does it work? Yes? Then battery needs replacement.
