I have used my Macbook pro since 2,5 years without a problem. However a couple of weeks ago all of a sudden, my screen had been frozen. I turned it of and tried turn on again. But I got a message saying that “my computer has not been turned off properly”. Upon having this message I tried to turn on my computer by pushing shift before to allow a disk check. I failed. Later I tried “options + s” and at first it worked. However my screen continued to freeze from time to time. Sometimes “option + s” doesn’t work. In such cases I need to use first “options + ctrl + p + r” and turned it of again and do check disk with “options + s”. I used the disk utility to see if there is a problem in HD. According to the report there is no problem in my HD. Could you explain please what is the problem and how could I solve it. Thank you.

Need 20% of your HD free for VM, Temp and Swap files. e.g. 120 GB drive should have about 25GB always free etc. If not freezing will result. Fragmentation could also cause some freezing. Approximately once a year a complete backup, erase of HD and reinstall/restore of System and data can defragment the drive. I have only had mine since Feb this year and it’s happened twice

Mine had screen freezes and power problems that progressively got worse. The screen would go white until I put pressure on the screen bezel. The charger would suddenly stop and let the battery drain. Finally I could not use the computer unless I kept the screen flexed with my hand. I knew it was a short in the screen cables. I found that prying the joint between the screen and unibody right in the center by the “Macbook Pro” label would solve the problem. I stuck a popsicle stick in their and it fixed all my problems. I later found some plastic strips that were the right thickness instead of the stick. Running fine now for 6 months. A lot cheaper than replacing the clamshell.
