Hello, I have a mid 2009 a 1278. Just bought a new screen and its still black. If I put a flash light on the back I can see the screen display and everything. I noticed I’m missing the backlight LED fuse can it be that? Update (02/22/2016) hey dan sorry for the long wait this my board
What is the history of this laptop? How, when, why did the backlight stop working? IMHO, screens themselves rarely go bad, compared to backlight circuit (cable, connector, fuse, backlight driver, filters, etc.). You need to troubleshoot that circuit first. Easiest would be to find the number of the board (820-xxxx), google for schematics, find the fuse and test it for continuity and short to ground on both sides, then report back. If the symptoms before and after replacing the screen are the same (i.e. no backlight) try to return that screen and don’t be buying any more parts until you determine the actual cause.
Backlight fuse most likely missing. You’ll need to get a new one soldered on there. If you arent familiar with soldering then I’d get a computer technician to repair it for you.
