Chosen Solution
I’ve recently been handed a malfunctioning Early 2015 13” MacBook Pro. On boot, the display shows only a white screen with some darker (gray) vertical lines (see picture below). Image is displayed perfectly fine to an external display through the HDMI port so my guess is the problem is hardware related. Please note this laptop has had its entire display replaced a few years back. I’ve tried looking for answers to this problem and the solutions I’ve come across have not worked. Things I have tried so far: Reset the SMCReset NVRAM/PRAMBooting into safe mode In addition to the things listed above, I’ve also removed the back cover to check the logic board and cables. I couldn’t see any obvious shorted out connections or liquid damage on the logic board but I did see a small amount of damage on the LVDS cable. The cable had some tiny cuts on the outer protective layer. Could this be the problem? If so, is it worth replacing the cable? What else could be causing the problem? Any help is appreciated!
UPDATE Added some pictures of the LVDS cable below
Sadly, the display will need to be replaced ;-{ The logic board connection area looks clean (both board and cable end) the wear was present is minor. I’m sure the display (replacement) was just a crappy unit from the start. Finding a good display is getting harder! People are holding onto their MacBook Pro’s!
