My laptop keeps overheating everytime after about 10-30minute of use. I have tried to clean fan and replace thermalpaste without success. Now im here to ask some help.
Hi @leipa , Does the laptop shutdown or give you a message etc regarding overheating? What program(s) are you using when the laptop overheats? Is the fan running on ‘high speed’ all the time from when you first start the laptop? Open Task Manager (right click on taskbar and click on Task Manager) and check the CPU % usage. If high check what apps/services/processes have high usage. Find out which ones and why they have. Which exact DV3 model laptop do you have? Is there enough RAM installed for the tasks / program(s) that you want the laptop to perform / run? Is the HDD activity light on continually because the HDD is being used as RAM. Have you checked Event Viewer to see if there are any clues to be gathered from there regarding your problem?
@leipa, Niklas, Run your virus/malware protection to ensure you have not been infected. Check and update you Bios and drivers. Try a thorough cleaning of all vents/fan/board using canned compressed air. Try system restore to an earlier date when computer was running better. Use your computer on a hard surface free of dust, carpet, table clothes, bedding etc is the worst for attracting dust and restricting cooling. Try disabling the Quick Launch from the start up if on your computer, as some forums say it solved their issue of over heat/shut down. Some laptops run cooler when not plugged in, try running on battery only. One thing that works great is if you get a little fan thing that attaches to the bottom of your laptop, they can be found at best buy or any other computer store.
