check for dust or lint build up in the dock connector. its really common for fabric and dust from pockets to get clogged in the connector, preventing the cable from seating properly. Other than that, its probably a problem with the dock connector (possibly liquid or just wear and tear). have you tested your charger and cable with another device at all?
