I’ve learned the hard way that, no matter what device you work with, you should disconnect the battery (and the charger) before (dis)connecting a LCD! I’ve had many LCD’s or backlight components dying because I broke this rule. How come it’s not necessary with the iPad Air?

For any electronics it’s a general rule to always disconnect power sources from it. I’ve had iPads come in with blown backlight circuits (filter usually) on the iPad Air 1 that were caused by unplugging / plugging the screen when the battery was still connected to the logic board. To disconnect power use a thin flexible plastic card always between the battery connector on one terminal.
