Chosen Solution
I have an old iPhone SE (first gen) which I use for reading, and a quarter inch (exactly!) on each side started not responding to touch. I’m finding it weirdly hard to find this problem anywhere else. Anyone seen that before? Replace the digitizer and screen? Or something else?
