this morning i plugged the adapter and it started to make a noise and when i looked where the noise is coming from it was the adapter. and it was leaking a smelly type of olish substance
DO NOT CONTINUE USING IT!!! an internal component has failed. the leaking is not good. the noise was a sign of imminent failure. continued use can cause fire. Please replace.
Possibly a failed capacitors, that is now leaking its content, as it is slowly melting away and getting ready to cause a fire inside your dwelling. So, best advice again is to not use it. Here is more of an idea what is leaking….Good Luck and STAY SAFE
Call Nintendo users support and tell them your AC adapter is leaking and becomes a fire hazard. I bet they will be afraid of bad publicity and they will send you a new one for free. It costs nothing to try…
I think you have to get a new wii ac adapter, if you can not get a free one, you can think about purchase it online, pretty cheap. There are numerous wii accessories from tmart can meet your needs.
Inside of your adapter , among many other pieces and parts, can be found numerous types of capacitors. Some of these are made using a liquid electrolytic substance. To give a general idea: think of the manner as is used in common 12v (car) batteries. These devices can fail at any time although it is more likely for some to fail sooner/&/or less predictably than others. The advices above are not opinions ! For your safety, please replace this accessory before attempting to use your wii! I only wanted to attempt to answer the actual question to the best of my ability with this subsequent answer. :) In summary, your adapter may very well be serviceable , ( depending on variable factors, it also may not be), but unless it can be fully restored to properly function DO NOT CONTINUE TO USE YOUR WII ADAPTER!
