Hello, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 that appears to glitch/short out and restarts while I’m using it. Is there a way to figure out what is causing this and how do I fix it? When it does this I get a snowy screen for about 1.5 - 2 seconds then it restarts itself. It doesn’t do it on any specific app or window or screen nor does it do it at the same time every time, it’s random. Can anyone suggest how to troubleshoot and fix this problem? Kind Regards, Dustin

Hi, Some things to try: Does it do this with the charger connected and switched on? If not, create a Win 10 battery report to check the status of the battery. Compare the Design capacity value against the Full Charge capacity value. The battery may be starting to fail Try using the laptop in safe mode for a while and check if it happens. If it doesn’t occur when in safe mode there may be a driver problem. Make sure all the drivers, especially the video adapter drivers, are up to date Run a sfc command and check if it finds and fixes anything and if so if it is OK afterwards If it still happens in safe mode, start the laptop and get into BIOS on startup and leave it there for a while and check if it happens when in BIOS as well. If it also occurs when in BIOS and the battery status is OK, then it’s looking like a hardware problem
