All the lights turn on to indicate that it’s on and after holding the power button down for so long it will turn off. I have removed the battery and powered it by cord only I have also removed the smaller watch type battery to do a hard reset and yet the screen still stays black. I don’t have a way to connect it to another monitor and I have no idea how to format.

Remove the battery again also disconnect the power adaptor so there is no power to the machine . hold down the power button for 60 seconds then reinstall the battery and reboot with power cord installed . If this gives you no joy it may be a bad stick of memory . If there is two sticks of memory in the machine remove one and try to boot then try the other . try each stick in each dimm slot as it could also be a bad dim slot. If the computer boots with one stick alone try the other stick alone in the same slot to see if that stick is bad if you need to replace memory remember to use the same type speed and frequency and latency. If this gives no joy then connect to an external monitor through the hdmi or vga connector on the laptop. If this doesnt work then you may be looking at a bad APU which is a major fix . Hi @dmonicqueen , You don’t own a TV with a HDMI input then that you can connect the laptop to? Have you checked the screen using a torch held at an angle close to the screen to see if you can detect any images at all after the laptop has started, e.g. the windows desktop. If you can perhaps you have a backlight problem. This could be caused by several reasons.

  1. Faulty lid switch (this controls the backlighting either directly - in series with backlight power supply or activates software controls)
  2. Faulty backlight power feed cable -either a separate cable from the mobo to the screen or part of the video cable or faulty connections either on the mobo or screen. Press around the hinge area and see if you can make it happen. This is where the cable passes through from the mobo to the screen.
  3. Faulty screen

the ribbon for the monitor is probably either broken or disconnected. when you turn it on does it do ANYTHING? flicker flashes anything? if not the above stated is probably to blame

I know this is an old thread, but maybe it will help someone somewhere since these laptops can still have a kick if you update to SSD and the memory. I have this laptop and did a new HDD (SSD) install and upgrade the memory to 8 GB up from the 4 GB + onboard 2 GB to 8 GB total. This laptop can supposedly handle up to 12 GB Either I bought an incompatible RAM module or my module was bad ( bought DDR3, 12800 speed which is what the 2 GB stick was out of the factory, so I don’t know)- but the fault was definitely the RAM. I was getting the same lights you were getting. I popped the old stick of 2 GB back in and it booted fine.
